IMPORTANT – Bivouac Camp Venue Change

Based on the weather outlook for the weekend we have decided to move the location of the bivouac camp to Gradbach Scout Campsite, near flash. The reasons for this are that Gradbach can offer more in the way of shelter; has a drying room for wet gear and has hot showering facilities.

Due to the change in venue, we would request that Cubs are dropped at the main farm yard at Gradbach Scout Camp at 2pm on the Saturday and be collected at the same place at 3.pm on the Sunday.

We do appreciate that changing the venue at short notice may cause transport problems and therefore, if this is likely to cause you an issue, please do not hesitate to contact one of the leaders and we will do what we can to arrange transport for you (Bagheera Tel: 07929 264 148).

In terms of kit we strongly recommend waterproof trousers and coats and also Wellington boots. In addition, please pack warm clothes. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ALL ITEMS OF KIT (INC BOOTS) ARE CLEARLY LABELLED. As a pack we cannot be responsible for any lost kit, but will keep a lost and found box for 2 weeks after the camp.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact one of the leaders.

Jungle Book

Jungle Book at Buxton Opera House

Baden-Powell based Cub Scouting on a collection of stories from Rudyard Kipling’s ‘The Jungle Book’. To this day the Cub section takes much of its inspiration from the stories and many of ceremonies and moral lessons featured in the book still form a key part in the way the ‘pack’ is run.

The opening and closing ceremonies still feature a ‘Grand Howl’ where the Cubs make a promise to Akela (the leader of the wolf pack) that they will do their best. Also, all the leaders are named after characters from the book.

It is good for all Cubs to understand the link between the Jungle Book and Cub Scouting therefore, to help our pack gain a further understanding, We are planning a trip to Buxton Opera House to watch the Jungle Book on Thursday 9th June 2011.

Tickets cost £8.00 each

If your Cub would like to attend on the night, we need confirmation and full payment NO LATER than 2nd June 2011.
